Andy specialises in breeds that Hunt Point and Retrieve.
Andy offers one to one training of all the HPR breeds, having trained most of the current HPR breeds in the UK. In addition to these breeds, Andy has trained relative new comers such as the Pudelpointer, Khorthals Griffon, Slovakian Roughaired Pointer and the Small Munsterlander.
Andy runs regular small group training days for HPRs on some of the best managed grouse moors in Scotland and the North of England. These grouse days have proven to be very popular over the years, giving novice and advanced handlers alike the opportunity to get seasoned and novice dogs behind grouse, where tuition is given, if and when required, and not just a case of counting grouse!
Additionally, Andy runs weekend courses for small groups of 4-6 on the Hulne Park Estate in Northumberland and various locations in the North East and Scottish Borders, which consists of shoot over days, whereby basic trained HPRs and their owners are taken into the field and shot over under tuition. These days have proven to be very popular and some clients have gone on to gain field trial awards.
Andy will take suitable HPRs in for residential training, subject to an initial assessment. Based on the Hulne Park Estate in Northumberland, Andy has access to excellent training facilities for HPRs including all types of terrain, vegetation, land and water that are essential to bring out the best in these versatile pointers.
At present Andy has regular clients who train with him from all over the UK. Additionally, some clients travel from Europe to learn and train their HPRs to the British system.
In addition to HPRs, Andy also has one or two clients with Pointers and Setters, whom he trains to a standard where they can be worked under control on grouse and to the gun.
